Hi,

Does anybody know whether there are any incoming ports which are blocked?

Hi,

I'm sure that all p2p ports, both in and out are blocked. I phoned Telkom support last night about that, and they said that it's not them who block it, but SAIX. I'm sure that it's as per Telkom's request. I've still got to phone them about a list of ports that they block. I develop software which can be updated via the internet, and although I use port 80 for many reasons, it's something I can use in an attempt to get a list out of them.

Looking forward to their reply.

Hi cedwards,

I'm going to post the same reply in my topic: Port Caps. It's about the same thing and leading the same way.

Cheers

I will be logging a FQ to SAIX on monday, requesting a list of ports being blocked.

Although I dont think Ill get an honest answer out of them, I will post the response here.

I have been told by the Manager Telkom IPNet Operations that HTTP (port 80), FTP (ports 20 or 21) and Mail (Port 110) have been prioritised, which i think, effectively means that all other ports are capped.

Hi Merlin

I received the same info from Telkom. They added that it is only applicable to international traffic, and therefore 110 is not prioritized…

Hope to find the truth somewhere.

Hi Merlin,

I'm very sceptical about the word 'prioritized' as no matter what time of day, no p2p application that i'm running downloads at anything more than 1k it's usually between 0-1k. I've actually installed Kazaa, Shareaza and eMule and running them 24/7 only to test across the board, and none of them get above those speeds.

For that reason, I don't believe 'prioritized' is what they've really done. I'm often up until 3am-9am and can vouch that this is the case during all hours of the day.

hi , here goes first post :p
I have no problem downloading at kazaa ? I have downloaded at 51k/b
Im have a business adsl line with prolong plus ? Might telkom not cap home users with p2p?
