Hi there,

Just set up routesentry with an international and local account, when the computer is completely idle (i.e. im not doing anything) the international account is slowly ticking over with usage (its been connected about 5 minutes and its already used 2mb) - just wondering whether anyone knows what the problem is?

I have triple checked my anti-virus and closed all other programs.
Also, when i disconnect my international account my local account then begins to slowly tick over when my PC is idle. WTF!!

Please help,
Thanks
Stephen

Just sent an email to my ISP about my international going bang. When I was not useing it

Netstat -b takes quite long to resolve all the applications & their associated connections. I would rather go for TCPView from Sysinternals (which is free). It shows you a nice list of all the Processes (including icon), Protocol, Local & Remote addresses and state of each connection. It's much more user friendly, faster, and allows you to close certain connections & any process.

You can monitor the network traffic with NetLimiter2. If you're dialing both PPPoE connections from your PC, you can have NetLimiter2 distinguish between International & Local traffic, by assigning the Local Network zone to the local PPPoE interface and Internet zone to the international PPPoE interface (via the Network Manager of NetLimiter).
NetLimiter 2 Monitor[url] is free and should be able to show you all the info you need. I have purchased the Pro version for the Firewall & other features. I have to say that NetLimiter 2 doesn't always show the correct amount of traffic usage when it comes to gaming.

If there's a big demand for it, I might try to code a script to configure NetLimiter's Internet & Local Area zones according to Local & International IP's for PC's that aren't dialing both PPPoE connections.

I've setup a WRT54GL router with Gatecrashers script to split the traffic for a friend of mine. I've then activated SNMP (simple network management protocol) so that we can monitor the traffic (seperately) going through the PPPoE connections that the router is dialing. Unfortunately I'm unable to see the source addresses (IP & port) of all the traffic when using PRTG Traffic Grapher.
Most routers have the option to enable SNMP, which will allow you to monitor the traffic with PRTG/MRTG. You can also use PRTG Traffic Monitoring to monitor the traffic on your own PC (with the use of its packet sniffer) - in this case you can get the source & destination address (and setup rules to identify certain protocols).
My question now is, can this SNMP show the source/destination address? I would really like to establish what kind of traffic is wasting international bandwidth.

Can the ISP maybe tell you what kind of traffic (torrents/HTTP/etc.) consumed the bandwidth?
