Re occuring Problem - help plz

The main problems is - i think ... my computer just decides not to reboot after a x amount of time (x being diffrent lenghts)

I looked for updates for bios and drivers and those don't seem to be the correct ones.. the drivers say for all windows listed >>except my xp (home)

So i put in the cd, AGAIN, to repair .. my partioned drive .. with windows on.. and now everything that i installed does not open .. it gives an error

>> ...... has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. <<< on any programme , sao i try uninstalling > same error .. but on my other drive (partitioned) things work fine.

I don't mind reformating as i already lost lots the other times i reformated :( and now what ever.. i just need to know why it is happening.

Viruses ? Does home not work with my MB? What im i doing wrong ?

It may be that one of your CPU's is overheating.
Check that you graphics card and cpu fans are actually working properly.
You may want to download and run speedfan to watch the temperature of your CPU.
 
If the PC is fairly old then stoke is probably right. I've fixed some weird problems by cleaning the CPU heatsink & putting new thermal paste on (e.g. Win install consistently bails halfway through format).
 
Try what stoke and HavocXphere said and if that fails it *may* also help to reaseat all the hardware. Not sure if it will help but its worth a try.
 
a pc that just does a shutdown :

-faulty psu (test with another psu)
-dry compound (remove and apply something new)
-dirty heatsink (clean it properly , give some machine oil )

reboots:

-memory (use memtest boot cd)
-remove memory sticks and test them 1 at a time
 
@Vember - can I ask what's on the other partition (the one that works)? It sounds to me like an app or a hardware device is causing a "buffer overflow" and this causes the windows to shut down the app rather than letting the whole pc crash or blue screen. Also, can you tell me if there are new hardware devices you've recently added.

Good advice from Stoke and HavocXphere as well. A new bit of thermal paste can really work wonders. Let us know what you find

It is a new computer with an old hardrive .. well now i have formated most of it so ... A better computer dude then I did the insallation of the new MB CPU and new PS and Ram

The other partion ranges from games to art sofware to some movies.
 
@Vember - if I'm understanding you correctly, are you running applications from your other partition that weren't re-installed with your new windows? If so, those "old" apps are trying to access the registry in windows and that's why windows is shutting it down - there aren't any keys/entries/strings for those app's in there.

yes thats true... i figured becuase they are installed in the same partition it makes no diffrence, but the olds apps are working.. it is the new apps the stop working and give that error
 
Interesting....Let me marinade on this for a bit and I'll post some more suggestions.

The rest - I would've expected the old apps not to work. Am I missing something?

Is that "not" supposed to be there?

btw if you got new gear you should re-do the OS completely, not just repair it IMO. Chances are good that the drives&rubbish from the old PC are conflicting with your new gear.

It does not explain these specific weird symptoms but it increases the chances of overall weirdness with the PC.

Start==>Run==>Compmgmt.msc==>Disk Management. (Assuming WinXP)
What partitions do you see there?
 
HA!!! It just did that dumping thing (blue screen).. that means that the 1m memeroy is not working correctly .. right?
or the cpu thing is over heating .. still downloading that thing.

not yes.. i restart and it does not boot up agian

C: (which has windows on ) (boot) and E:
 
HD 46C << To hot
Cpu 0 32C <<< good
Cpu 1 32C

I'm with HavocXphere on this one. When getting new toys, it's best to back up and reinstall all apps. That HDD seems a bit hot though, do you have any idea what's making her work so hard? What make is it (HDD)?
