how did u do it at home :/

You buy a SIM for like R1. You RICA it... and follow the instructions on the starter pack. Ported in a jiffy.

Official instructions:

1.Buy any Cell C starter pack and do NOT open it
2.RICA your new SIM card
3.SMS #portme#serialnumber# (note: this is the serial number of your new Cell C SIM) to 084 767 8287 from your MTN, Vodacom or Virgin Mobile SIM card
4.You will receive two confirmation SMS's within two hours on your MTN, Vodacom or Virgin Mobile SIM
5.Wait until your current MTN, Vodacom or Virgin Mobile SIM card stops working
6.Then you can insert your new Cell C SIM card and recharge to start making calls

I am seriously considering moving to Cell C, wait for my Vodacon contract to run out and then move.

I ported last week and data in Sandton has been abysmal. Today I have had no data throughput the whole afternoon - which is not acceptable as my phone is a business tool.

Agreed! Check your area's data connection reliability before porting - densely populated areas have near to no data in peak times. I can connect fine before 8am, after that...nadda!
