Hi all

I've come across the above OS

Watz the view outthere on this OS and how does it compare to Linux etc

thx

erm.
no,
reactos is perfectly capable on running on a normal pc with supported hardware.

but it is still just not even "there" yet, at best can be described as a technical demo.

it doesnt compare to linux, not in driver support, application support or any other type of support. that said, it is a very good idea, and i hope they pull it off.

long delays between releases and very few developers working on the project mean it is unlikely to ever be "big"

Ok, just had a look at their site. Up until ReactOS 0.3.3 RC1 (Mid July) it was not for installation on hardware. Still, you can play quake 2 on it so it must be getting somewhere.

Excellent, so we can play Crysis on it by 2017 :D Quake 2 turns 10 on 6 December.

Talking about waking up a dead thread....

I just saw a in depth review of the OS in this months PC Format(UK Edition). I didn't even know the OS was started in South Africa.

Just the fact that the Founder is from Durban makes me wanna download it and see, even if its just for fun.

Tried the Virtual Box version just now, loads very quickly, but just hangs when trying to install audio drivers .. so I disabled audio, now stuck on system drivers ...
Giving up for now, maybe I give it a shot soon again :)

I remember using the Live CD of this about 2 years ago and it was fairly unstable in terms of the taskbar from what I can recall. I am going to try this OS again when I get a chance this week.

WOW!

This is like they reverse engineered XP!

Just hope MS don't buy and drown this project.

Hmmm well I see they copied the BSOD functions of Windows very well, as that is all my VM ends up doing.

Oh well....
