Since I don't have a choice but to surrender to WBS's extortion tactics, I've decided to buy an extra gig so I can have connectivity for the rest of the month.

Could someone please remind me: How much does 1GB cost?

Please don't tell me I'm a bandwidth hog or whatever.

I think is between R120.00 and R180.00, well I won't think of it, anyway I'm in Durban as we speak abusing my company's DSL.

That ****in' clown i called at WBS told me "an extra 1GB at R150"

Go figure

I'd suggest that you don't pay them anything.

A friend of mine (in Cape Town) just signed up with IBurst during April. He got suspended (used < 10 gig bandwidth), paid for another gig the same day as the disconnects, but haven't been reconnected yet.

After 20 phone calls with no answer and only promises that he will be phoned back (which never happens) - he is still disconnected.

You cant just buy an extra Gig and be reconnected automatically. I found this out last night.

You actually have to phone helpdesk, tell them that you are buying the 1 GB, then send a fax saying that you have done so with your username. They then go and manually plug you back into the matrix.

What??? I just payed the bastards! I mailed them my proof of payment. Here's my inContact sms (note the reference)

FNB :-) R159.00 paid from FNB card a/c..271000 via Internet Banking. Avail bal R*****. Ref:Wbs Extortion Fee. 22 Apr 10:06.

Its interesting that they ask for a 'request for bandwidth' in writing - yet they (as far as I know) refuse to put in writing the fact that they have suspended the individual account and will only 're-activate it' with the purchase of bandwidth'

So legally all the suspended users, are putting in writing that they're merely 'buying extra bandwidth' with no mention from IBurst as far as I know, that this purchase is actually for Internet Access itself - something that IBurst guaranteed to start with.

Well I did the fax thing even though I was told I did 6.2 GB only to have my email sent to me by WBS on my bandwidth usage as being 6.01.......anyway all I did was send a fax on the day of the disconnection and I was connected quickly but as far as i know nothing was deducted or is going to be deducted (according to the accounts dept)

So.....WTF is going on ?

I'm gonna ask my sister to check if my account's working. If it isn't I'll just ask FNB to reverse the transfer which I'm sure won't be a problem.

So how do they know when you're supposed to be throttled (after exceeding the bw you purchased)?

They sent me an email saying I have 945.16MB bandwidth remaining....after which i will be throttled.

Now where have i heard that before...
