Readers are ditching eBooks for paperbacks

I prefer the iPad (albeit now the larger version). Have ebooks , videos, etc. on there, so not limited to reading whenever I travel. Yes, it doesn't have the battery life of a Kindle and is a bit heavier, but I can live with that. Haven't used the Kindle in ages. Have the older keyboard version.

The book I'm currently reading on my Kindle Fire is from the Kent County library in the UK but I see I can also access the local libraries here in PE.

Qq, how do ebooks handle footnotes? Just thinking about novels like Discworld which uses them in tons. I haven't come across them yet.

I'd say if you're looking for battery life and don't mind not having a backlight, get a Kindle Touch. If a backlight is non-negiotable, you might as well stick with the Mini 2.

Kindle is obviously going to be superior in some regards, as it is a device built solely for reading and Amazon puts a lot of work into that, but not everyone will find the advantages worth the money of buying a second device.

Disagree completely. The Kindle Paperwhite's backlight is awesome, and way more convenient than a full tablet for reading.

One of the best things about the e-ink screens for me is that I can sit in the sun and read it clearly, without reflection or glare. In fact it's clearer and easier to read full sunshine than indoors. This is a huge advantage over ipads, kindle fire, etc. If you're like me and you like to take your kindle to the beach or wherever, this makes all the difference.

I perfer E-books. Ebooks dont take space up in the house.

I actually bought my ipad because I wanted to have a device that I could could read on, that did more than just books.

This year I started getting my magazines electronically via Zinio to save on the clutter (I subscribe to 5 magazines). I buy my back to the future comics from kindle (Use the kindle app on Ipad), Books between apple books and google books. I found kindle fiction a little expensive. It is nice to go away and have my library with me.

But reference books, I prefer paper, A good coffee table book is not the same on a e-book reader.

Battery life isn't bad when reading, watching videos tends to chow the battery a bit though. It's only their basic model so YMMV.

I paid $50 for my kindle last year - the paperwhite is $120. I bought a clip on light for mine, which I have rarely used, so it seems I really don't need the more expensive paperwhite.

That's cool. I had the 3rd gen Kindle before and did fine without the backlight, but when it broke I figured I might as well upgrade. Use it enough to justify the extra bit of $. Especially around twilight.

Not really the same thing. If you set the paperwhite backlight to a low level its actually quite useful - emits a very faint glow.

That said, whether it's worth the extra money is debatable.
