Over there
I have been tasked to buy a carpet cleaner for our home. Anybody have any real world feedback please.

This was the suggested model: https://milex.co.za/products/milex-pet-pro-shampooer-vacuum-cleaner-s

Looking around on Takealot, this looks like a better option:
Genesis Cleanmaster Anti Allergen

Or what looks to be the Rolls Royce judging by the price:
Karcher - SE4001 Spray Extraction Vacuum Cleaner

The only effective carpet cleaner is pulling up the carpet and binning it..

Sebo is the best.

rent one from shoprite ,pnp etc ,the domestic units are not amazing ,ive got a delonghi ,its ok but not the same as the big blue ones on rental

I have a carpet cleaner, look they're great and the amount of brown filthy water that comes out is kinda shocking.. but one has to factor in how often you use them (once a year or so) and it's a lot of hard work, it's not just a vacuum.

But if you really want one, then out of those three I would eliminate the Milex only because it's a cheaper brand and probably won't last many years.

I have the old Genesis Big Green Clean Machine and it's still going 17+ years later! It's heavy as a dead body.

If money wasn't a problem I think I would choose the Karcher for build quality and strength etc.

I am so far from a carpet cleaning rental business, by the time I return the machine, it'll be time to wash the carpets again.

Replacing carpets annually works out expensive eventually.
Sorry, I wasn't clear enough, though I never did mention replacing the carpet with carpet..

Let me try again, the only effective carpet cleaner is pulling it out and binning it, replacing it with a hard floor of your choice..

I hope you didn't need to clean the carpet after disposing of a dead body in it and thus have first hand weight comparison experience.

I just admit that Genesis sort of caught my eye. I hope their quality hasn't deteriorated too much in the past 17 years.

OK, now I'm with you.

My previous home had genuine Oregon pine floors throughout excepting the kitchen and bathrooms. I always wanted these in my house, looked so warm and inviting. Reality was different though. Cold in winter, slippery, can't creep around the house unheard on my nightly insomniant wandering (it is a positive if the creeper is a bad guy though).

When I built this house, I wanted carpets in the bedrooms, lounge and my office. Kitchen, bathrooms, scullery, passage and dining room has tiles though. Carpets are lekker but they need regular deep cleaning to stay lekker.

Tiles are easy maintenance but cold in winter. And it gets damn cold where I am.

I have one of these

Works extremely well but you need hearing protection

2 years of animals in the house, that's what the lounge looked like... /heave

Thanks for doing all the research for me, we have a baby arriving in the next week or two and have pets also looking for a carpet cleaner. Leaning toward Karcher as there is a service centre in CPT and parts / etc are available online.

I see its a little cheaper directly from Karcher - https://karcher-center-its.co.za/shop/carpet-cleaning-machine-karcher-se-4001-carpet-cleaner/

I currently have a basic Karcher machine and it has been hammered and still keeps going. It is really loud.

:)

I saw that and am about to order directly from them as we speak. I wanted the upholstery cleaner attachments too so went for this model: https://karcher-center-its.co.za/shop/karcher-se-4001-upholstery-nozzle/

R1.00 cheaper than ITS

I have recently replaced my Karcher hi-pressure spray with a new one. Old model lasted about 12 years of fairly heavy use on bakkies and tractors. It's still good but I battled to find a replacement hose as the attachment points on the newer model are now different.

Karcher seems a good buy.
