The traffic is heavy and their taxi's drive just as bad as ours, however, the taxi drivers do respect the scooter drivers so they do give them space. It's as if the locals know "Hey, it's a tourist, let's behave".

Khao Lak is and hour and a half from Patong. I would suggest Khao Lak over Nai Yang.
Going to Nai Yang to be close to the airport for our flights.
What time are your flights?

Patong is very commercial. While it is an experience, I'd recommend only staying there about 2-3 days. Also, +1 on talking to those travel kiosk people on the side of the road. We got a ticket to phi phi island on a ferry and back (to and from our door in patong) for about R200 if I remember correctly. It's like an open ticket, so you can come back whenever

Before renting a scooter just check the legal aspects if you're in an accident.
If i understand their law, foreigners are found responsible for any accident they are involved in, as the accident would not have happened if you weren't there. So if a Thai driver hits you, its your fault and you're paying for all damages.

And travel insurance
People go over there and hire bikes without the correct license and are surprised when insurance refuses to pay medical costs when they wipe out...
Doing a day trip to Bangkok, planning to fly first thing in morning and be back later that evening.
Okay will consider a shorter stay, don't want to lose too much money on transport over actually enjoy a place.

Those speed boat trips are super rushed and fairly pricey. Rather go to phi phi on the ferry and then find a boat going to the other islands from there.
I did both the speed boat thing and ferry. Much preferred doing my own thing and not being rushed around. And was muuuch cheaper
Okay but doesn't the longer journey cut into time doing things over there like scuba diving.
Maybe need to over night at one of those islands.

Do not book any trips online, they're inflated. If you just book them in where ever you are staying - it is much cheaper. We paid about R350 to R450 for day trips by speedboat, which included lunch.
My daily budget was not that much. It was way less than R1000. Could have even been around R350 ish?? I really enjoyed street food and all the other things.
You can do things the lazy way, everything online and spend lots of money or you can do it your own stuff and save money.
We stayed 8 nights in Phuket and 4 nights in Bangkok about 2 years ago. I spent about 25k.

I think all in all, I spent about R16k including flights, accommodation, food, gifts, trips, and even a tailored suit haha
I booked online here for accommodation.
I did go over New Years day though, so that had to be done. The most expensive part of my trip was the flights, we booked when there was no specials running so we paid about R11,500 to Bangkok and internal flights came to about R1,300.
