I've had ADSL for about 3 years now, and it's been perfect up until about a month and a bit ago, where my line started losing synchronization every day or so for a few minutes. Then it just constantly got worse and worse, and about a week after the problems started, the router would be desynchronized more than it actually was synchronized. The telephone line was also extremely noisy, I could hardly hear anything besides static during the dail tone, and phone calls would just randomly disconnect. The DSL was also extremely slow when it was synchronized. So I filed a fault on the telkom website, and about a week later a technician came out and replaced a few points that he said were eroded. So he left and for a day or so the router actually synchronized, though the dsl was still extremely slow.
Back then I did a speed test on speedtest.net and only got 20kb/s download and yet my line is supposed to be 384bit, so it should obviously be faster.
So once again I filed a fault on the telkom website, thinking that the last technician they sent out was probably just a failure. Well a week later another technician came, and he put a new telephone line from the box into the house. Finally I thought it was fixed because my line speed was back to normal, and the staticy sound seemed to have gone from the telephone. Well that never lasted long... about 3-4 days went by and the line was back to doing the same thing it did before, losing sync and extremely bad noise on the telephone.
So once again, I filed a fault on the telkom site, hoping that they'd figure it out. Well it's been two weeks since then, and telkom hasn't responded to that fault yet. I tried emailing them to get feedback on the situation, though obviously seeing as their service fails I never got any reply from them.
So does anyone have any idea what the problem may be?
I've tried unplugging the phone completely since that's what the first technician said was the cause of the problem, though I still got desyncs. I tried unplugging the dsl completely, yet the telephone still had that staticy noise.
Here's the stats or whatever:
Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin (dB): 17.9 11.0
Attenuation (dB): 49.0 29.5
Output Power (dBm): 2.1 15.4
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 736 612
Rate (Kbps): 384 128
Another thing I've noticed during these last 2 weeks is that monday-thursday I'd be lucky if my dsl is synched for more than 10 minutes every hour(and once again, my speeds are extremely slow when I am connected). Though Friday morning until sunday evening the line hardly experiences any synchronization drops. The telephone is still staticy though.
I tried calling telkom to get a port refresh, as I saw some people mentioned that in other threads related to synching issues, though my telephone just died after awhile when the static got too bad. Would a port refresh help me?
Thanks a lot in advance
