:confused:Hi All,

I have read most of threads but I am still confused about the choice of ISP.
I am just moving to jhb from Europe, I have Telkom phone line installed and need to have ADSL. I will use it for surfing the web and downloading torrents from international sites. Bandwidth usage will be 5 to 10 Go per month.

I have Wifi router Linksys WRT54G. My questions are:
+ Where to order ADSL line? Telkom, Axxess?
+ What ADSL modem do you recommend me to buy?
+ Which ISP and package do you recommend?

Thanks a lot for your help

This is Africa, Its ok to feel confused, its the dish of the day here. :D Ask Telkom.

Get the Telkom Boardband Do 3 (if you don't mind a contract), which gives you a 4mb link and 3gig international traffic. Remember that you need a telephone line which is about R124/month. You will get a router with and then create an account at Axxess (I use Webafrica) and get a prepaid account. That why you can purchase as much BW as you need.

+ Where to order ADSL line? Telkom, Axxess?
-- You can choose to either order the line separately through Telkom, and then just pay for the GB's through any other ISP (or TelkomInternet themselves). OR most ISP's these days offer an all-in-one package afaik, plus it works out a little cheaper that way.

+ What ADSL modem do you recommend me to buy?
-- Thought you already had one :P

+ Which ISP and package do you recommend?
-- General consensus is WebAfrica or Axxess for great support and good pricing. From WebAfrica at least you could buy yourself a 5GB package and just have automatic top-ups applied if you go over.

PS. Don't plan on doing much in the way of gaming or VOIP type stuff that requires low latency if you're gonna go for the cheaper "Shaped" packages.

Hi All,

I am pleased to see your answers.

I only have a Wifi router without ADSL Modem, If i order ADSL from Telkom, the modem is free or not? if not is it better to buy one from a retailer?

I will low latency in the evening and the weekend, did you try the semi-shaped packages?

please advise

Best regards
Darkang

Same with Axxess and some other ISP's. Nothing special.
