So, a year or so ago, I needed to do some work for a client that wanted to port their Access DB to a better, online solution. PHP and MySQL later and problem solved. So, for the purpose of this project, I acquired a netbook to sit next to my mac and run the Access side while I coded the online solution. Now, the netbook is no longer necessary. If I do need to refer to the Access stuff, I fire up VMware. This is seldom so it is no big issue. So, I turned the netbook into a hackintosh. Best ever. I did it all on an external USB drive first to get everything working. It is the LG X130.

* Wireless network - works with Ralink utility. Gets better throughput, faster connections and more reliable network than when it was on 'doze and than my MBP.
* 3G card - it is an Ericsson f3507GW. Works like a bomb after ONE modification to the script = add AT+CFUN=1 to set it into data mode. What's more, if you're outside and know what you are doing, two ATs later and it will start spewing out NMEA sentences, giving you your exact location - something that it would not do on windows!

So, I go to LG to see if they can switch the internal 'doze HD with the external. 20 minutes later and even the guy at LG (fantastic dude btw - really impressed with LG) is besides himself with how cool it just works.

So, anyone looking to make a netbook hackintosh, I can seriously recommend this particular LG.

I recommend the HP 311 or similar - 11.6" screen at 1366x768, nVidia iON. It's lovely to hackintosh when it works well.

Yeah - that viewport sounds sweet. I dunno, maybe it is just me, but there is something really special about a netbook running Mac OS X. You said when it works well - does it argue at times?
