Hey, I'm moving to the USA soon and really want to use my laptop over there. The laptop's adaptor is universal but need some way to convert the tip to USA plugs. What options are available? I keep finding USA to SA plug converters but not the other way around. Please, any help is appreciated.:wtf:

Cut the SA plug off and attach a US one.

Try your local China Mall or equivalent.

Got a US to SA for R10. They had all different types.

Which tip? The side that plugs into the electrical socket? Is the mains-side cable permanently attached to your laptop's power supply? Or does it plug in with a cloverleaf 3-pin or Fig8 two-pin?

If the latter, just buy a USA cable for $9.99 at just about anywhere in America.

For R79 at Dischem you can get travel adapter, at Clicks also. Visited both in Canal Walk today.
Or ask someone that bought new notebook, with HP you get various cables with

Lol I could kiss you, I couldn't find a nice way to describe the end but cloverleaf did the trick!
So theoretically I could just buy this in america

Also is there a difference between the mickey mouse end C6 and C5(cloverleaf)? They look the same to me.

Thanks I'll check around a bit more.

You can get american 2 pin plugs in South Africa from some online stores and change the plug on the cable. The other option is just to buy a cable in the USA when you get there, a 2 pin figure of 8 or 3 pin clover cable should be a couple of dollars.

Yes, thanks for all the replies. Lots of happiness to all of you! :D I really appreciate the advice and help!

Does this forum have one of those SOLVED thread options like other forums?

Just buy the cable for a couple of dollars in the US, if you are going to be using it long term there don't use an adapter (especially as the adapter will cost more in SA than the proper lead in the US).

Yep. I have bought them at Radio Shack before but now you will probably have to go to Best Buy.
