Really poor line quality?

At present the speed of my 2MB line seems extremely slow. Lot's of 'time outs' when I ping google.co.za for example.

Could it be due to the copper line quality?

My Line Attenuation downstream is 45.9 dB

Something that I also find odd is that there is some noise on the line when you pick up the telephone or speak to someone on the telephone. Perhaps it could also be this?

Log a fault with Telkom for NOISE on your VOICE line. Do NOT mention internet or adsl, if they ask tell them it's fine but you want the noise on the voice line fixed!

If they sort the noise out your line stats will improve.
