Hi, I'm new to this forum and hoping for some help. I am new to wireless and networking. I have a desktop & laptop. Right now I think the main problem is a msg "a network cable unplugged". I have a Realtek rtl8139/810 Family Fast ethernet card. I tried updating drivers already. Still trying to find my way around this forum so i hope I can respond to any help.

rosemary51, the msg is not a problem as such. It should only appear when one of the 2 PCs are not connected to the network (eg switched off) Since the PC sees the network as a "normal" network, when there is no connection it "believes" a network cable is unplugged.
When the PCs connect the msg should disappear.

Thanks sach70. I purchased a new router as I suspected that may have contributed to the prob. When experimenting with using the ethernet cord in 1 computer only and the other one wireless, I realized the msg came up on the wireless computer, probably because there really was not a cord connection.
