I think I have found the reason why Telkom technicians regularly pitch up unannounced.

The technicians pay for their own cell phones. They do not get any money from Telkom to phone customers. However, I have been told that there are rumours circulating that Telkom is now going to start providing technicians with a R55 Vodacom voucher every month.

Given Telkom's 50% ownership of Vodacom, it's rather disgusting that Telkom forces employees to foot the bill for calling customers.

If I was a Telkom technician, I too would probably pitch up unannounced if I was forced to pay for calls to customers myself.

Please G0D, can I just go one day without finding out something diabolical about Telkom? Please, just one day. I seriously need a break now.

I can vouch for Debbie's comments on the cell phone. The 3 different techies that I dealt with said the same thing, and 2 of them (Techies) were using MTN Pay As You Goe'z.

Yup. it's true. They get the phone's for free sometimes, but pay for calls. I went out on jobs with a techie who knew a guy at a Telkom call centre. He would miss call the guy, then the guy would call him on his cell and conference call him with the person he wanted to phone, then leave the conversation. Now that's how you get free calls as a Telkom tech :)

Jeez ... now that is just plain pathetic.

I wonder who decided this lame brain policy ... properly some old fart left over from the S.A Post Office regime.

If you want them to do the job properly then give them the tools to do it !!!!.

My sources are the Telkom technicians I have spoken to.

That missed call/conference call idea is a good idea. I'm going to tell those techies I am in contact with to use this system. It's not fair that they have to pay for calls to customers.
