I am looking for a new desktop PC to take into res next year at UCT. I found the following system online, I'd just like to know if you can spot any problems with it that I haven't noticed? Also, how much do you think a PC like this should cost?

2 Front and 4 Back USB Ports
Integrated 6.1 CH HD Sound Card

There is also this: (which is better?)

Well what they're gonna charge you would help in deciding but as it stands, I'd be inclined to go with the AMD system simply because they offer a 4850 with it

+1

Also has double the HD size and bigger PSU ;)

What is the price like on those systems?

Those 2 systems are both from evetech, R4499 if you pay by EFT, incl VAT. Very reasonable, but then I still need an OS and a LCD...

What do you guys suggest for OS? (not Linux) :D How is Windows 7 performance-wise?

That's a good price. I would definitely go with the AMD, much better spec & graphics.

Windows 7 is fantastic, you won't regret it. It's gonna be a keeper for a long time. Look at getting a 64bit version too. I don't think there's a price difference, and it's runs very well.

With regards to an LCD, take a look at the Samsungs. There's so many models to choose from so I can't recommend one specific model. But go for a full HD, it's sooo pretty :)

Okay that settles it then!!! :) Which Windows 7 should I get? What's the difference between Home basic, Premium and Professional?

The AMD, 4850, 64bit, win7 home premium and add 2gigs more ram.
