Why can't ISPs have more reasonable uncapped thresholds? I would say it is fair to have the following in place:
2mbps ~ 512GB per month
4mbps ~ 1TB per month
10mbps ~ 2.5TB per month

Everyone will be happy and usage will be fair.

Sjoe, what would fair pricing be for those offerings?

Account prices would double.

Those limits are basically maxing your line 24/7. So in other words you need a business line.

Yes, those are the limits of the line so in other words it void the whole usage limit nonsense. So it is fair to call it uncapped.

Well then you need to charge how much a capped account would be for that usage. Uncapped is based on the principle that not everyone is downloading 24/7. That's why you pay more for a business line.

What would be better is once you reach your FUP your line speed goes to 50% instead of to 1%.

The whole product eco system is pinned on the artificial FUP. Take that away and you no longer need capped products. You essentially pay for a connection and use it as you please. Its not like it physically costs money to move bits around the world.

Well such a product exists from many ISPs. You're just not willing to pay for it. Here's a few:

(With quality problems, but great if you just just torrent).

It costs to upgrade infrastructure though to keep up with usage.

LOL :D

Haha, yeah, that is not even close to reasonable. In the real world i would say this is reasonable for "HOME UNCAPPED" and even this is pushing it. For general browsing and watching youtube videos, you will never use more than 1GB per day.

If on the other hand you are doing "Legal" downloading of movies. It will be around 1.8 GB per movie (720p) so you can download 2 movies every single day for a month. thats A LOT of movies.

2mbps ~ 150 GB (5 GB Per Day)
4mbps ~ 250GB (8 GB Per Day)
10mbps ~ 400GB (13 GB Per Day)

The whole home/business uncapped nonsense is also a by product of FUP. Take that away and simplify everything.

I went a little over this month, well over what I thought was fair usage, and my internet is still rocking. All and all .....I'm too ashamed to say how much.
My usage is usually under a 100GB, but this month I decided to join some friends on online gaming. Battlefield premium 75GB + Warframe + Planetside all in one week.
Hope Hardline beta isn't as big as Battlefield 4

/looks at 100MB/s free lines from Google in the USA and cringes
