Hi folks.

I've recently recently moved into a place, and have noticed that there seems to be a bit of an iffy crime situation about.

For the sake of protecting my visitors and their belongings I want to beef up my security a bit and add perimeter detection measures to the system.

I'm looking for somebody, a company or an individual, who would be able to help me out, as I'm really not interested in paying a stupid amount for a thousand rand of hardware and an hour or two of labour.

I'm in the randburg area, and any recommendations would be greatly appreciated :)

You get what you pay for and can easily google retail prices of the hardware on quotes. The company I'm using charges RRP for their hardware and reasonable rates for labour, but they are in Somerset West so no help to you.

But having personally worked in the security industry for a short while as a control room operator all I can say is you get what you pay for. So don't go cheap as outside beams can lead to many false alarms creating a cry wolf situation.

If I had the need to monitor my perimieter (thank goodness I don't) then I would only bother to consider Roboguard : http://www.roboguard.co.za/

As much as I agree that you will get what you pay for in terms of hardware, I really don't like seeing companies implement 300% markups on products that have already been drastically marked up on import. :/

That is why its important to know your prices. Also make sure the installers SAIDSA members as they need to adhere to certain guidelines for the installation. Its little things like wiring to reduce fire risk, moving the panel into a cupboard instead of your passage (make sense from a security aspect).

Yeah definitely.

Is there an archive of some sort to check if companies are SAIDSA members before contacting them?
Because THAT sounds like it would be a wise thing to do. :)
