Are there any VoIP services that one can receive SMS on. I have freshphone but it doesn't support sms.

What are the options.

I think for the moment being you may use whatsapp tell your friends and family which have it to text you if there is something they wanna let you know about

Generally no, get a SIM for that, but you'll need to keep it active.

2FA for foreign accounts I suppose.
Pretty much this. I want a voip no that can receive SMSs for OTPs, password resets etc. Trying to go "sim-less" but seems its really not possible at the moment. Something along the lines of Google Voice, but thats not available in ZA at the moment.

Did you find a solution at all?

are you in South Africa or overseas ?

if overseas I read on this forum of using an SA Vodacom eSIM as one of the 2 SIMS in a dual sim phone (the other SIM from tge country you are in)
According to the thread it only works well on an iPhone (1 x eSIM + 1 x physical SIM)

Before leaving SA:
1) activate the Vodacom eSIM in the iphone and test to ascertain it is working well.
2) activate VoWiFi (voice over WiFi) on the Vodacom SIM
3) activate international roaming on the Vodacom eSIM, but only SMS roaming in order to contain costs.

If anyone is still looking, Twilio has virtual numbers that support receivong/sending sms for $4/month. The process of getting one is a bit cumbersome though because you need proof of address and etc.

I know that Telfree used to offer this, but unfortunately they closed up shop years ago!
