Received a fine, court date, question

So this morning I received a fine for driving on the bus lane on the N2. R500, guilty as charged.

On the fine it states I have to appear in court in June.

I don't want to start a debate why I was traveling on the bus lane.

So I have to go to court for driving on a bus lane? Are they for real?

I was nailed for driving in the bus lane. The copper asked if I knew it was the bus lane so I tuned of course so he asks why I am driving in it and I say "Cos I am Baas Greg"...

We have bus lanes? That are actually monitored and working? :confused: Seems unlikely...oh wait...you're in Western Cape. Makes sense then.

Is it still only inforced during peak time? The lanes become available during certain hours doesn't it?

7:30-9am afaik.
 
I'll probably receive a bit of hate over this but I don't even bat an eye lid at fines or court appearances relating to traffic offences.
They havn't found me or many people I know in all these years.

you have been issued a legal summons (unlike the notifications you receive in the post) you only have to appear in court if you want to contest the fine, pay the fine and move on

I am going to pay the fine. It was just unclear to me why I have to appear in court. But your comment makes sense, thanks
 
You either pay the fine or state your case in court. If the fine was issued by a cop then it serves as a summons.

I would go to the court asap and ask for a reduction from the prosecutor then pay it.
 
The court date is only there if you wish to dispute the fine :) (sigh of relief) (btw, I hardly believe they can actually keep the schedule)

Just pay the fine and move on, NP

Similar to Eletric I usually just ignore the fines.

This.

We live in a country where we have cars on our roads that are basically death traps and where most taxi drivers do just about as they please on the roads so why should I pay for going a few km/h over the speed limit? F**k that!

These, mostly obese, traffic "police" hiding behind the bushes with their little camera's should stop trying to fund their KFC addictions and focus on the real problems.

In the Western Cape there are often road blocks where you drive slowly through some cones while a camera picks up your registration and checks whether you have unpaid fines.
If you do, then you cant leave the road block until paying up etc....
 
so what we have those aplenty in Gauteng too. In our case we have etoll roadblocks too

Never been through one, and I've been through a ton of road blocks - besides they can't hold you for fines until you've been to court. (or are in contempt of court)
