I'm seriously at the point where I want to pull my hair out with my reception.

I'm using an external antenna and have perfect 100% reception always. Downloads at 120kb/s. 3 Days ago my reception started jumping from 30% - 80%, my connection is horribly slow to the point where I get between 1.7kb/s - 9kb/s when downloading. I have not ran out of data and I haven't changed any settings on my pc at all.

I first thought it was maybe a network issue so I left it for a day, now its 3 days later and my speed is still crappy.

I took my modem to another pc and received 90%-100% with just the normal small antenna that came with the usb modem, as soon as I plug it into the external antenna my reception sucks, I need the antenna as the main pc is in a dead spot:(

My question is as follows, can the external antenna break? does the signal change that you have to move the antenna around from time to time? I had perfect reception for the last 6 months. Has anyone had this problem so far? I don't know what to do to test where the problem is coming from. I am so frustrated.

PLEASE HELP!

Same here. My reception has been terrible for the last two days. Also used to be 120kb/s using an external antenna. I have called iBurst twice this morning and they insist they have no network problems!

Frustrating since I also have not moved or changed a thing. Also very weird is it is only download speeds. Upload is fine ?? If I managed to get to speedtest.net then http://www.speedtest.net/result/1103606214.png is the result

Any suggestions?

a) Never trust what the ibUrst help desk tells you. Most here will tell you horror stories. Wait until Monday and contact Rooigevaar. I know it's a shlep having to wait, but he seems to be the only bloke that can help, and who really knows what is going on.
b) Never trust what-...oh, no, that about covers it.

Sorry, but Rooi is really your best bet. So many of us here have been told in months and years past that it was us, our computers, our modems, etc that were at fault, when it was in fact a network problem.

I don't even waste my time trying to phone iburst, it pointless. I have in the past wasted so much time trying to get something out of them. My uploads ans downloads seem to be affected. Its like dial up all over again, eish :)

speedtest doesnt want to load now but here is one I did earlier today http://www.speedtest.net/result/1103795364.png I use to have a ping of below 100:(

How do I contact Rooigevaar?

Just send him a PM - you'll find his posts in most threads.

Thanks,

I just checked my reception, back to 100%, Why does it take iburst almost 4 days to notice that there is a problem, eish!

Sorry, I've been catching up with some work stuff and didn't log in yesterday.

If you have an issue and PM me please include your UTID (it makes diagnosing the problem quicker!)

I don't know what the issue is in this case and would need to investigate it. In my area I had an issue at a friend's place where the rain made the tree is is yard extra leafy and wet and we had to search for a new place to get better reception. (Moved it 1m and it was back to full speed)

Another issue that impacts download and is noticeable on browsing is MTU. I learnt the lesson again on the weekend when I reconfigured the two extra AP repeaters in my home and forgot to set the MTU to 1392. The performance was poor without the correct setting. (I have 2 DD-WRT routers as repeaters and a central tomato box with my connection to iBurst)

[On a side note: I have lost all MTN reception at my place! I only pick up signal 50 m down the road. I am now relying on my iBurst VoIP number while at home!]
