Our complex obviously goes dark with load shedding & I'd like to get a few outdoor security lights to light up the entrance gate etc. They need to be mounted in place (mofos will steal 'em otherwise) and be able to run on battery when mains fails. If they need to be connected to mains for charging that's fine, else are there such lights that solar-charge?

Any suggestions appreciated.

I got one of these earlier this year. Only used it a few times but works well. It's currently going at half the price I paid!

Looking for something else: Ceiling lights that are battery powered and come on automatically when power is out. Would prefer to mount them alongside existing lights and use the supply from the existing lights to wire into the battery backups. Existing lights go dark, battery lights go on.

I've seen the usual led lights that plug into mains and come on automatically, looking for something better suited for ceiling and wiring.

Want to use them as a backup for when lights on a stairwell go out.

There are bulbs that has batteries in them, you install them into normal fittings and use as normal lights, they can also be set to come on automatically hen the power goes off

Sounds like you need more than just a light that will go on when the power goes off, unless the circuits are always powered and the current lights go off with individual day/night switches and not a main day/night switch or else they will shine during daylight hours, else you'd need it to have day/night switch capability on the rechargeable light,

I'm testing a Magneto LED lantern that someones fitted with a day/night sensor for my outside lights that on one circuit. When the lights do off from the main day/night switch, those lights will want to shine, but they won't because of this sensor fitted.
