my winfast tv2000 xp global has given up the good fight and the hunt for a replacement has started. i've found this one at kalahari dot net, and this one from bidorbuy. it has to support the AV/Composite input and preferably be an external unit.

what do you guys think?
thanks

This product is absolute rubbish, I have never struggled so much before to try and get something to work when they say its just plug and play. The booklet inside is missing information about the product and there is no website at the back to try and get some sort of tech support for the product.
so the Mecer's out i guess

Just make sure the one you purchase says Windows 7 Compatible on it. TV card drivers are the worst thing to find.

.... It's the BMW/Audi/Merc/<insert reliable nice car of your choice here> of TV Tuners...

Having owned a BMW and an Audi, I wouldn't have used either of those as an example of reliability :P
/emote covers head and ducks for cover

Edit: Although they never did actually break down. Just went in alot for stupid things like leaking power-stearing (audi) or noisy "kunk kunk" sounds from gearbox (bmw)

+ 1 for Hauppauge though

Yeah, after typing it I realised I shoulda written something like "Toyota". Somewhat more expensive than a Kia/Hyundai/etc, but pretty much guaranteed to work without any fuss (barring sticky accelerator pedals, etc) :D

I also vote for Hauppauge.

I agree - check if the card is Linux compatible too, you may want to setup mythtv (don't know your setup). My K-world card was quite a bitch to setup in linux as it wasn't supported out of the box.

Hauppauge cards are generally good when coming to Linux compatibility.

Another +1 for Hauppauge! See you're looking for an external unit. I have the USB WinTV-HVR - supports DVB-T and PAL. Really small and portable, AV / composite cables attach via small connector on unit. Running on Win 7 - 64bit with no problems - very easy to set up. Uses PC hard drive as a buffer, so you can pause live TV :-)

i was pleasantly surprised when on Friday the mecer showed up at my door, long story how i ended up with it; lets just say the better half gets quite cranky without her kyknet or 7de laan and we can't afford a working tv right now ;)
granted it was a bit of a mission to get it going, compounded by the fact that it didn't come with a manual. but a tech minded person shouldn't have too much of a problem figuring out how to hook it up.

i like it, exactly what i was looking for. a stand alone unit totally independent from the computer, not a video capture device. and in realtime i swear the quality is better than the capture card was, no more blurrred sms straps orr rugby player with three legs when they run
