Hello all
Done a ton of research and need helping picking out a surge protector.
From what ive read online, 2000+ Joules is the ideal surge rating for PC's
- I have 2 PC's , 4 monitors, ONT and Router plugged in.

That being said, most of ellies things is rated for 500-700 joules.
Found these:
https://www.wootware.co.za/apc-essential-surgearrest-5-plug-surge-protector.html (slightly higher)

Not all of them show joules - just basically need recommendations of what would be "sufficient" for this setup - really open to any recommendations on what to use

From what I have heard the only surge arresters worth the money are the ones fitted to the DB board and the benefit of that is the whole house is protected in one go.

Check this out on takealot: Voltage and AMP Protector

You'll need an electrician to install it and issue a new CoC, but it protects your whole house.

I heard this too , but apparently they dont last (not sure how accurate that is)

I haven't heard about them not lasting, maybe cheapie ones have that tendency but I'm someone with experience with them will reply shortly.

Those seem very handy and well priced, this review was interesting:

"For our situation where we have a lot of brown outs and power going on and off, this kind of protection is a must. It's adjustability is great. When running the generator, I simply set the amperage to a value that is acceptable for the generator and I have the peace of mind that it will not be overloaded. Just consider that it might turn off with a power dip that a computer can handle if the reaction time is set too short. Another downside is that it's face is short and leaves a gap in my DB cover, but not to the extent that it is dangerous. Unlike many other products of it's kind, the connection points are large enough to receive the correct wire size needed. A good buy overall."
