Needing (i seem to think) a DAC for the study.
I have a Audio Analogue unit downstairs - scored as cheap as chips (but bundled into an excessive purchase).

Its task would be taking the audio signal from a macbook pro and converting.
it will be working with a yamaha av receiver + klipsch floorstanding spkrs - so definitely not needing one of these jobs:

The Chifi brands seem to have come a long way. The SMSL and Topping DACs seem to be well regarded.
Some of the new 'audiophile' recordings are coming out in DSD instead of PCM. So maybe having that option would do some future proofing.
I have a R400 DAC hat on a Raspberry pi, so a different setup to yours (R400, not R400 000 :))

I have been eyeing out this budget-friendly Topping DAC to replace my aging Tascam DAC to run two studio monitors. I'm looking at this one in particular because it also has an optical input so I can connect the monitors directly to the TV. It also has two outputs so I can connect a sub at a later stage.

Which is ironic considering what internal some premium brands use... For over a decade plus.
