Getting a MTN data sim contract for a friend - any suggestions on a router.

Use will be fairly lightweight for her and the 2 kids.
No gaming, a bit of streaming & general Web use.

I've used 2 Huawei B525 65a routers interchangeably on MTN and Telkom LTE for approximately the last 4 years.

Never a moment's trouble from them, so I'd personally advise to go with this brand.

Obviously that model is no longer sold - don't know if you're looking at buying online, but I prefer "brick and mortar", so I'd look at getting a B535 or B818 through a Telkom shop (whichever they sell, these days, for "cash") - double check it's not SIM locked, but mine weren't ; one of them I got from Afrihost, as part of a deal at the time.

Just be aware that if it's fixed LTE, the likelihood is that even through MTN directly, only certain routers will be allowed ; refer to the following :

Scroll down to :

Which devices can I use with this service?

"MTN can only allow devices which have been network approved by MTN. This range of devices includes: Huawei B525, Huawei B535, Huawei B612, Huawei B618, ZTE MF286

(scroll down quite a way beyond - MTN Fixed LTE - On Demand - for the list ; B818 is on it as well).

Others might point you online, to other brands?

As it so happens, found this :

About what the one B525 cost me, so I'd think fairly priced.

I'd question them as to what "SOYEALINK" has to do with Huawei as a brand.

Also, just be sure (ie. they should read the entire model number over the phone to you, before ordering, so) it matches "HUAWEI B535-932" as per the list, assuming you want to go for it, for your friend.

That same website states the B818 is no longer sold by them, which is surprising, as it's newer than the B535 - far as I remember.

Thanx - seems pretty decent.
The Soyealink thing is a bit odd

Hey guys,

What's the difference between the Huawei 535 Pro and the 535 Soyea?
