Recommend a solid router / shared WiFi access point for up to 100 people

I'm looking for a router and access point that can support up to 100 simultaneous clients without too much sweat.
I want some control over QOS / speed throttling / filtering.

So far what I have in mind is a combination of:

Mikrotik L009UiGS-RM router UniFi AC Pro Dual Band AP 2xGE | UAP-AC-PRO

Is there an all-in one option that you can recommend instead of multiple devices? The simpler the better.

You would need at least two access points for 100 users.
Best to seperate access points from gateway or you won't have stability.
Would use a openwrt gateway and two openwrt based accespoints like the cudy wifi6 variant.

I see unifi pro advertising 250+ concurrent clients

Never seen any practical load on even the latest ones work well over 50 connections. I think that number is theoretical. I suppose if all on them are only doing email the maybe you can do 250...
But you cannot have that many users and not think about resilience, so even if it did support that amount you would need more to eliminate single points of failure.

Ja 250 does sound a bit over the top.

Used this one and easily loaded 50 devices on one.
Used a x86 platform as a gateway.

Max ISP speed?
I currently run the following:
Ubiquiti UDR (good for max 700 Meg)
Unifi AC-LR
Unifi AC-Lite
I use the Unifi Network Application to manage my network

Call me biased but I am hooked on Unifi kit! What a rabbit hole this easily becomes

I mean a UniFi Dream Router would cater to your all in one need but it would depend on what kind of square meterage you need to cover or how many floors etc.

It has 2 PoE ports so you could expand with two more UniFi access points.

The new UniFi Express might be a good option too but really need more details on coverage and floor plan etc, it’s not really built for 100 devices all at once.

If there’s a rack then a Dream Machine Pro might be an option especially if you might have a need to expand into NVR and Access down the line.

Max ISP speed?

It’s an open plan hall, so very forgiving. I’m thinking of popping a rack in, yes.

Yeah I guess then budget comes into play as the deciding factor.

If you go Mikrotik and UniFi then you’ll need something else to still run the UniFi controller on, so makes more sense to have a device to do that.

I like the look of the dream router. Says it can handle 100+ clients. Not sure if that’s connected clients…

Yeah that’s connected at the same time.

It’s a pretty powerful device, just doesn’t always make sense for all scenarios with the built-in WiFi but could be perfect for you.

Start there and only expand with more AP’s if you need to.

Just be mindful not all models have PoE.

Udr I think would be underpowered for your application.
Rather go UDM Pro, or the cloud gateway ultra.
These all have the built in controller which is so much more effective and easier to use than the local controllers etc. Mikrotik as well is much more difficult to use and configure than the UDM-PRO and ultra.


Then you'll also need the access points for the WiFi.
