I think I got ripped off, that's a good deal :o
Honestly if I saw it at that price I would think it would be cheaply made, but I have it and can assure you it looks and feels solid like good quality.

I thought the same but have no clue why but I averaged around 40MB/s when I had it internal, external the same drive does like 80-90 MB/s. I think the MOBO controller (asus P5Q) makes use of the CPU more than the docks controller.

The eSATA controller lives on your motherboard not the icydock. eSATA is identical to SATA it just provides a different connector for external use.

Still seems weird though. How many SATA controllers (chipset) do you have on your motherboard. Some motherboards have two (usually Sil RAID but can be used without raid)

Edit: Your board actually has 3x HD Controllers, 1 is PATA only.

I suspect you have the eSATA backplate connected to a different controller or a different bus on the same controlle. SATA still has master slave although it is on two seperate physical ports. This could make a difference.

I have 8 ports 6 intel and 2 SiI, I only use the intel ports though because I have AHCI enabled.

Will see what happens when I connect it to a slave port.

I agree, if I new there was a cheaper model I would have gone for it, I went for this drive because of the positive review on anandtech and newegg rating.
 
I like the black shiny finish with blue LED.. only because it matches the rest of my setup including the PS3 and Samsung monitor

Also searching for a SATA 3.5" enclosure preferably with e-SATA connection for the speed

Pretty much deciding between these 2. Both look good with good reviews
