How does it compare spec wise to the latest out there? Looking for atleast 4gig ram and a good processor. Have you used it and how is the general use in terms of speed/processing power?
firstly.
there is no Waterproof.
there is basically splashproof. understand what the IP68 ratings mean so you dont get into a difficuilt position because of it.
are you looking to go deep sea diving wiht your phone? then the CAt is the option, and you take a knock on specs to get the higher water resistant rating.
but if you just want to be able to walk in the rain with your phone out. there are 3 options that can compete with the 3T in specs.
the Sony Experia XZ ultra
the LG G6
and the Samsung S8.
right now I am comparing those three and the Huwawi P10 to see what I will be upgrading to. its between the G6 and the S8 for me. and I am not a Samsung fan at all, but I will get the best phone of the year if I can.

yes i do understand the ratings. i meant something with an IP68 rating. i don't plan deep sea, but just normal swimming/snorkelling/general underwater , just for the kids.
My contract has expired and i'm also looking at options. Coming from an Xperia Z3 which served my 'waterproof' purpose. For some reason, dont want to look at Sony again. Not Samsung fan either.
I get that. wife had a Xperia Z, best Friend had a Z2C that I used while my G4 was being repaired for bootloop.
right now, the top 2 options are the S8 and the G6.
and it is going to come down to personal preference on the two.
right now I am leaning more towards the G6. but I am waiting for the more in depth testing with production models to be done by my favourite youtubers before I make my call.

You really don't want to be purposefully submerging IP68 rated phones. It's there to protect your phone from things like rain, spills and accidental submersion.
Kids being kids
Go for a rugged phone .
Might not be the latest Apple or Samsung or whatever is trending at the moment but a rugged phone will cost less in maintenance.

LG G6 is enticing, i just dont know the LG brand, phone wise. Never used one, never knew anyone who did. So not sure about it.
For me the Samsung S8 is OK, but not a Samsung fan and price is ridiculous.
I wouldn't mind that phone at all...especially the IR camera that comes in handy when we do engine commissioning and have to check for hotspots on cable joints.
I'm currently using the Sammy S5 Active, which I haven't seen available in SA for some reason. It has its flaws but aside from going everywhere with me and bumping into all sorts, the screen doesn't have a single crack in it after 2 years. It also has a rubber cap keeping the USB port "water resistant". The only issue I've had with it was it shutting down due to being too cold when it was -35C outside.
Before that I had the s4 active and I can't see myself ever going for a vanilla samsung, it just looks too fragile.

The FLIR camera although lower resolution is amazingly useful in various amount of ways .
convinced my brother to get a G3. brilliant phone.
my wife and I got the G4.
and a few friends followed my advice and got it as well.
all of them went into bootloop (9 phones in total)
all have been fixed. but the bootloop issues have really hurt the brand.
they have learned a lot from the bootloop on the G4, the Modular design failure on the G5 and the exploding battery on the Note 7.
and I think the G6 will be the best phone of the year.

Because even now, no one is willing to do the repair free of charge as far as I am aware - re-actively or pro-actively.
no. you are being kinda silly here.
MTN repaired my phone free of charge, my wife's phone free of charge and my best friends phone free of charge.
Vodacom did another friends for free.
and Telkom told you to take it to LG smartlabs.
and I know a few people in the G4 thread on here took their phones directly to LG smartlabs.
no idea why you are raging so hard, from where I am standing, the G4 bootloop issue was handled badly in the beginning and then solved, new motherboards were shipped and there has been no issues that I know of.
maybe you have a different story, but to me you are just sounding a bit sour due to the bootloop. and that is understandable. how do you think I feel when all of my friends ended up getting the G4 on my recomendation and then the phone going into bootloop?

I don't think I am being silly at all - I think you are trying to dispel that there is an issue to fit your beliefs.
A big company such as LG should issue a recall and take the financial knock.
Under warranty - of course it is free.
Outside of that - I have a family member who gave up the phone (left it at MTN) after being told it would cost R2000 to fix - around December 2016.
I am also aware of a high number of G4's sold on Gumtree.

what I am saying is there is an issue, and you can fix it if you walk into an MTN dealership that is not dumb as ground.
December 2016 my best friend took her g4 to the MTN store in Boksburg and they fixed it in a week. and this one had bumps and bruises and a missing camera lens on the back.
she said bootloop, they said cool, come get it next week. boom done.
I think LG have handled this better than Ford has.
and what does the high number of G4's on gumtree have to do wiht the price of eggs? did you miss the special MTN was runnig where a G4 was R369 with 2 GB of data and 200mins? it also came with the 50GB data deal, so a lot of people got that one and sold the G4's
I have said there is an issue, and LG handled the issue. there is no need to recall all the phones, just because there is a quality issue on 15% of the mainboards in production. and they fix the problem as soon as it comes up.
in SA we know about it more because it is hotter here, and that leads to more problems, also we were shipped the problem batches so all the phones sold in the first 9 months in SA had the issue.
the problem is MTN and Vodacom selling the 505-508 serial number devices to people AFTER LG announced there is a problem with those serial numbers and not warning people.

They fix the problem if under warranty. Not if it breaks after 2 years.
