Hey All,

I've arrived at the conclusion that I need a new PSU...

I don't want to spend hundreds of bucks on it though
Anyone have any particullar recommendations?
I'd like something reasonably quiet, my current one has a fan that sounds like a Boeing taking off

I've found a reasonably priced AOpen 400W on digital planet here

Reckon it's any good?

I think ShockG once mentioned something that the 450W and higher AOpen PSUs are actually better, since they're made by some other company or something like that

That's possible I guess... it's more than a R100 increase from the 400w to the 450w ..

well it comes down to what application you are using the computer for. if its gaming go for somthing like 450w+ if you jut use it to do you work documents and media then 400w is more than enough. the other factor is your budget, so i guess its up to you and wat you use your computer for. :)

i think the more expensive ones are fortron sourced...i have an Aopen 700w PSU, i was told its fortron sourced. Great psu....Aopen is definitely best bang for buck:)

Not much gaming for me ;) mainly programming and general stuffing around (whatever that means)...
I do a bit of 3D modelling/animation stuff ...

Here's my full spec:

Gigabyte GA7VAX Motherboard,
Athlon XP2600 CPU,
1 GB DDR400 RAM,
Geforce MX400 64MB GPU, (with a homemade fan)
C-Media sound card (5.1),
250GB Seagate HDD,
Asus 40x CD-RW,
Afreey 10x DVD-ROM,
1.44" Floppy

I also have a couple of USB devices attached: Mouse, Bluetooth dongle & Joystick ( :o yea OK I do play one or two games every now and then - only Linux ones though)

My current PSU is 350W...
