Recommendations for a <R5000 phone

Hi all,

I have parents that are in desperate need of new phones. They are pensioners and only use their phones for calls/Facebook/Whatsapp.
They currently have a Samsung A30 and a iPhone6.
The budget is R5000 x 2

Thanks, the Samsung A33 seems like a nice replacement for the iPhone6 - size wise

I see ram is stingy at these prices...

Best Cheap Android Phones below R800

My domestic wants to buy a new cellphone for no more than R800. Our usual deal is that I buy it for her and then she pays it off. She uses it for calls, SMS, Whatsapp and Facebook. I have no idea what's available in this market segment. Suggestions welcome. Edit: she has an MTN sim

They’re old, don’t let them struggle with cheap Android phones. Especially the one coming from the iPhone 6.
 
Look at the Samsung A series phones. Avoid used phones unless they come with brand new OEM batteries.

I would not recommend getting Xiaomi, the adware is integrated within the OS and the phones have lots of issues.

If the phone is only R4k and the battery has declined to 80% then its better to spend that R1k you have left to replace the battery than to buy a budget Android phone they wont be familiar with.

So the kid decided he wanted to upgrade his phone (iPhone 6) and stumbled upon these phones: iPhone SE (2020, 2nd Generation) 128GB - Red (Better) (istorepreowned.co.za) @ R4 500. We had a look at the site for a while, read the "condition guide" pages. He was worried about buying a "Good"...

Yes, don't get anything with less than 100% battery life!
 
Samsung A14, bought my wife a phone in November 2023. No issues. No lag etc. Perfect phone what you describe their needs to be. You can go more expensive, but their is no need to. I am myself rocking an A24, bought in November 2022, no issues as well. A14 is newer and slightly better specs.

The R3000 price range phones are no longer crappy. It is sufficient for most peoples needs.
 
You can get secondhand Samsung S21 on Carb for 4.5-5K
Cheap as chips for 2-3 year old flagships that cost near 20k when new
 
Get second hand from cash crusaders. Much better value. Browse their website for good deals...
 
Samsung a34, if you look hard enough, you can get a brand new one for under R5k
