Hi -

A friend has asked me to install a simple WiFi router so that she can access the Internet via her Amazon Fire tablet.

  1. Her current ADSL connectivity is via a Billion router with built-in 4-port hub. There is a spare RJ45 for the WiFi router.
  2. There is only one person in the house, i.e. dual-band etc an overkill.
  3. It is unlikely that the unit will be used for video streaming.
  4. +1 if the router 'family' includes a repeater.
  5. For my sake: should be simple to secure :)
A WiFi router with built-in ADSL (i.e. make the Billion redundant) will also be considered so long as there isn't too large a price premium.

Recommendations appreciated !

Have a look at www.dbg.co.za then pm kernel - he is their rep on MyBB. Members get a little bit of discount from them too.

I'd suggest keep the current ADSL router and get an additional one for the wifi - that way your wifi is protected from lightning and stuff.

Only lightning that comes through the power sockets. Recently, lightning hit our phone line. Went through the the adsl modem, out of its ethernet ports, and fried a router, two NAS drives and a network printer.

But to answer the original question, I like the apple airport express, as the interface is easy to use.
