My now 6yo daughter has shown interest in cameras since hm about 2 years old. She's had toy cameras and loves taking photos with my old (now stolen) phone.

I'm considering buying her one of the "kids cameras" available on Takealot (small town, I have to buy online).

Any experiences on these types of cameras? What headaches do they cause? I'm not ready yet to fork out thousands for an entry-level proper camera. I'm OK with the extra expense of a memory card.

Criteria: (obv) must take pictures, preferably videos with sound too (I saw one specify about sound, so I assume some actually don't record sound???). And it must be pink. Or purple. Unicorns and rainbows optional.

Kids cameras are real junk, poorly built with really bad features and resolutions.
You much better off with a cellphone (pink or unicorn casing) camera or a second hand decent camera.

I second the idea of a cheap phone. These will be more durable than an actual camera with a moving lens that could get knocked/jammed.

Once she is a little older, and decides that she still enjoys it, maybe look at getting her a decent bridge camera. I gave my old SX50 to my father and he has been taking stunning photos with it (16MP, 1080p video, 50x optical zoom). The battery is also good, considering it's a 2013 model
