The company I work for currently has cloud backup for our server. The server currently has 240 GB of data on it, which compresses to 60 GB in the cloud after deduplication and compression (I'm still sceptical about that compression ratio and wonder if they really are backing up everything, but that's another matter).

We rent this cloud backup through the IT agency that handles our technical support and are paying R900/month for it. Looking around at a few random places offering this service (DataKeepers, NCD Solutions, Enterprise Backup), the rate seems high but this is an area where I am cautious about cutting corners - when I need it I'll need it bad and I'll probably only find out if they are a dud when it's too late.

Anybody able to recommend reliable backup service providers ? Extra points if you've actually successfully restored your data from them.

Honestly, I would put it on S3.. for 240GB, you'll pay 90rand a month and you won't need to compress anything.. it's available anytime you need it and you can replicate it to another region if you want extra data redundancy and pay 180rand a month..

OK, so those are storage solutions, but if I want a backup client on the server to look after versioning, de-duplication, SQL Server backup etc., what is recommended ? I see that Backblaze recommend Cloudberry but it's not clear to me on their website if there is an additional charge for that.

Dropbox with Backup Software to Dropbox folder.
Unlimited space for Business package.

Cloudberry is both free and paid for, depending on what you want from it..

Yes, I have restored individual files but I think I should do a more thorough check - something is looking fishy to me.

Why not get a office 365 subscription? Comes with a 1TB cloud storage account and you can sync folders. Bonus points for getting the office suite included.
