I would like to get a couples photo shoot for my girlfriend for her birthday, problem is I have no idea which photographer to use and what kind of cost I should be expecting? I am looking for recommendations? what to look out for?

Do a google search for a photographer in your area. Go to their portfolio, if you like what you see, contact them for a quote. If the quote is above what you want to pay, move to the next one.

Or get a recommendation from someone.

google the photographers in your area look at their portfolios, then contact your favourite 5 - 7 for quotes and work from there, never ever go for cheapest photographer you can get because chances are they are not that good anyway

You might want to look a bit further than your immediate area. I live in Centurion and do shoots in Pretoria and Jhb areas at no extra charge...
