Recommended metatrader compatible broker

Most brokers support them both, but you'll require MT5 if you're going for stocks, futures, commodities or indices.
Also the accounts aren't cross compatible, so if you get an MT4 account, you'll need to use MT4. Same goes for MT5 on MT5 accounts.
What are you trying to trade? The brokers usually let you have your pick. The scripting language between them (MQL4 and MQL5) is quite different and they're not cross compatible AFAIK. Most forex trading is still done in MT4 because of this due to the bigger range of MQL4 EA's.
Regarding brokers, I've used XM whereby I've traded on it and got paid out quite quickly too.
