I live in a 2 bed apartment, which is about 110 m² and I have very poor WiFi connectivity in both rooms. I have a 25Mbps fibre connection at home, I barely get 6Mbps with constant connection drops in the rooms. I have two routers a dlink 2750 and a Tenda router which came with the fibre installation, both routers perform the same and seem to have very poor wall penetration..

Do you guys recommend any routers that can solve the problem? I have considered a range extender but I dont have plug points positioned well enough to provide both rooms with a decent signal. See pic of apartment and router position below.

Why don't you just put the dlink in room 1 and wire it to the router in the kitchen. Wifi should cover all rooms then.

Thanks, that's an option but for a small apartment I am not too keen to run network cables across the walls, I dont have access to the roof as there's an apartment above me.

I (briefly) had that exact router and found the Wifi strength to be shocking - so much so that I returned it to Takealot and got another one instead.

I went with an Asus n14-u and have had no issues subsequently.

It might be worth looking at just a wireless AP - as you don't need the ADSL capabilities.

Tenda and Dlink APs usually have around 30mW-50mW signals. That's not really enough to penetrate walls. If you get a AP with a stronger signal (100mW - 500mW) it will penetrate walls, e.g. Mikrotik routers.

Good point. Thanks.

Powerline wifi adaptors might do the trick in a small apartment - http://www.tp-link.co.za/products/list-18.html

Edit: Have you tried other channels? There could be another router on the other side of rooms 1 & 2 wall.

Ah. Nope I havent looked at switching channels. Will also have a look at powerline adapters, just need to weigh up the cost vs getting a router with increased range.

Thanks, I will have a look at that model. Issue is that the space between the two rooms does not have a plug point so I cant extend the range, placing a router at any other place in lounge/kitchen gives similar results.

Which model do you recommend? Would I need to run network cables through the walls?
