Hi there. I am a woman who has just moved into a new complex and it would be a great help if I could get some advice from you guys :-)

In the complex there is only one LNB, so I cannot get the dual LNB connection recommended for the HD PVR. I have an old HD PVR (with the 4 cables), and after trying to get this to work with a splitter, have come to the conclusion that I need to buy the new HD PVR 2 to get this set up to work. I tested someone else's HD PVR 2 in my apartment using the splitter I have, and everything seemed to work (HD channels, recording, pausing, BoxOffice, OnDemand) with the exception of the TV guide.

So my question is: is there anything I can do to get the TV guide to work? Do I need to buy a particular kind of splitter or do I just need to resign myself to the fact that it will not work?

Speak to the complex "manager" some have specific LNB settings but in my experience using splitters on PVR decoders always have something that doesn't work properly, sometimes some channels, or like your case the TV guide, for instance you probably wont be able to record and watch another channel at the same time as it needs two feeds and the splitter while splits off the feeds into 2 or 4, it still technically comes from the same source. Perhaps find out from the body corporate if they can get a DSTV installer to assess what needs to be done and upgrade the system.

Thanks for your response :-) Unfortunately upgrading the system is not an option, as I am just renting. I have heard about the inability to record one channel and watch another (which I am fine with). I was just wondering if I perhaps had the wrong splitter (if this is possible) because the features that come out of the one tuner (data, OnDemand, BoxOffice) all work, and I know that the TV guide also comes from this same tuner.

You need 2 LNB's for the decoder to work properly, or 1 LNB with SATCR from the dish to the SATCR LNB on your decoder, take a look at http://mydstv.org/XtraView.pdf for an example

Just ignore the splitter and second HD PVR in your case, these diagrams show you either need 2 LNBs (for Horizontal and Vertical) or a SATCR reciever on your dish

Note for the dish Guru's: May not be using the correct terminology :D

Hi Segg. That solution would be great, if I could do anything to the dish! It's a communal dish for all apartments, so I only have the single LNB cable to work with...

I agree with psion: start by speaking to the complex supervisor.

In addition:

1. Speak to the Multichoice customer centre. I have found them to be generally very helpful; and
2. The DSTV website has its own forums - http://forum.dstv.com/index.php - with some very helpful guys/gals
