Reconnecting to internet

Why do I have to restart my PC for reconnecting to internet after I disable internet connection? If I enable the connection again the status of connection shows 'connected' but none of sites open. If I restart every thing is fine. I use ADSL router 'DSL 502T' and have Zone alarm anti virus installed. My OS is windows xp.

Why are you disabling the internet connection and do you pickup a valid ip address after you re-enable your internet connection.

Can you ping your default gateway when you cant connect to the internet?

Try going to the command prompt and typing

ipconfig /release all
ipconfig /renew
