So in my haste to join to partitions I managed to delete everything that was on the one partition and join them.
Is there any way to recover the data from the one former partition :o

Easy Recovery Pro, can be found on everyone's favourarrrr site. Sometimes gives a bit of trouble, but it should find its way through to the files. You will need another disk to copy the recovered files to, it will recover them, not rebuild the partition.

thanks so much! As long as I can recover everything I'm happy, that drive that it will copy files to, does it need to be as big as the total amount being recovered? ie can i split the recovered amount over 2 HDDS?

any free options?

Try r-studio it takes some time to scan but will show recgonised partitions once you select a partition it will show the file structure as it was before format ,then select files you want to recover and destination.

Please keep in mind that files might be recovered as long as they have not been overwritten several times by other files and then some files might not be recoverable. I have used several software like DiskDigger and File Scavenger successfully to recover files in the past.
