what i did was run "clean app" on the cloned external drive & selected quicktime. (clean app fully removes all files / folder associated with the installation of any software - dragging the application to the trash only deletes the application itself, other files & folders remain).
within clean app one can archive an application.
like deleting an application, archiving searches your drive for all dependent files & folders.
so in the archive process, "clean app" found the relevant plist files"
"clean app" creates a folder within "documents" in your home account.
it creates an archive of the selected application & saves it to the "clean app" folder.
within the "clean app" folder, a file called quicktime.caa appeared (.caa extension indicates a "clean app" file.
click the file to select it, then click "get info".
within "get info" change the .caa extension to .dmg
open the .dmg file, drag quicktime into "applications" & the .plist file into "library" . "preferences"
done !
quicktime is now quicktime pro again
