Hi,
Is there an alternative to Rectron where I can purchase computer parts for my online website store?
Rectron refused my application because I wasn't a registered IT Reseller.

Any info will be appreciated, Thanks.

Pinnacle, Syntech, Frontosa, Mustek, Sonic there are more whose names I can't get to now..

Edit:
Scoop if you want some networking stuff like mikrotik and ubiquity..

What is the definition, according to them, of a "registered IT Reseller"?

Esquire, not always best prices but they have a handy walk in shop in Midrand and also do deliveries. They also sell a multitude of other stuff as well.

Have no clue.
Did you register a company with CIPC..? If not, that's your next step, as most distributors require that you have a registered company in order to be able to buy from them..

Which has the biggest selection at the lowest prices from the list you gave me.

None of the distributors except Esquire will let you buy from them if you don't have a company registered on CIPC.

You would ideally want to be registered with all of them.. some carry products/brands that the others don't and that gives you the best opportunity to offer a wide range of products and brands to your customers..

Anyway, hate to break it to you, when you eventually do get registered and see their pricing and compare it to some of the existing etailers out there, you are going to find yourself wondering how you are going to make money...

In the past we could buy from Rectron through the company I worked at, delivered to the office.
I think I bought from them once or twice, something like HDDs or flash drives.
The rest of the time I just bought from Wootware which were cheaper and obviously have a larger selection.

I suspect they have cheaper prices for the bigger players.

Yup.. the more you buy and more often, the more buying power you have to get better pricing from the distributors..

Back when I was building PCs for people 3 - 4 years ago, it was cheaper for me to buy from Frontosa/Pinnacle vs etailers but, even back then, if I setup a webshop to resell, wouldn't have made money doing that.. now it's even more competitive out there..

+1 to just registering with all of them to get access to a good range of products.

Not sure if it is still the same, but years ago some of the suppliers had different pricing levels. Moving to a higher level for better pricing made it slightly easier to be competitive.

Doesn't work like that...

If you want your online store to actually have a chance of surviving, you need to have accounts with most of the major distributors, you can't just be a reseller for one distributor... your potential customers will just go elsewhere that has a better range, and consequently better pricing.

The CC route was relatively painless IIRC, and none of the suppliers required more than that. Except one or two, who at the time wanted to see that you're already registered at other suppliers :-|

Yes the already registered part was a bit baffling when I saw that..
