Rectron South Africa has decided to work with global computer hardware company Gigabyte to develop a branded offering of the Gigabytes M1305 notebook for release in South Africa. According to Rectron the notebook will have Parlotones branded features not only on the desktop or screensaver but on the casing and sleeve designs as well. The manager of the band Raphael Domalik describes the Parlotones as the most important music brand in South Africa. One would expect him to say that, even if the reality is that Afrikaans artists like the now controversial Steve Hofmeyer and Kurt Darren are in fact some of the most important brands in music based on sales.
I cannot help but wonder if Rectron would not have more marketing success with a Hofmeyer branded notebook but I guess the Parlotones is a better bet for a more universal feel to the product instead of being segmented into the Afrikaans market only. Although, a variety of branded offerings is not a bad idea in my opinion and perhaps they are planning to do it.
I have to say that this is a very interesting idea by Rectron who has come out guns blazing with a new range of very affordable Gigabyte notebooks selling with HDMI and all kinds of multimedia capabilities way below the norm of similarly specified competitive notebooks. You would be silly not to go and have a look at one of them. They are indeed brilliant value for money.
