Is it possible to find fresh Red Snapper in SA? Had some very fresh and well prepared again tonight, away from home. I wish there was a way to have this more often... Have to say it is my favourite fish to eat.

What is your point of reference? You get northen red snapper and then some.

One of my favourite local fish is http://www.wwfsassi.co.za/?m=5&s=5&idkey=879 but that's got nothing to do with snappers.

I had Red Snapper here in the tropics... Not sure which type. I've had it marinated and pan-fried with chilli and a tomato salsa type sauce, as well as pan fried with a more milky/cheesy type sauce. Very good stuff. Love it. Want more! Never seen any Snapper down in Cape Town. Will actually see what I can find, when I get back.

Those are actually pretty common on this side and you don't really hear much about them. I don't think I've ever had it though probably because of the same reasons as not eating baracuda, ciguatera. Ask Dj, he'll tell you a little story :D

Who's afraid of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, usually followed by neurological symptoms such as headaches, muscle aches, paresthesia, numbness, ataxia, vertigo, and hallucinations anyway?

The manager of the restaurant, who I met at a bday party on Saturday, actually caught these Snappers yesterday afternoon... Fresh from the Seychelles waters :)

Years ago I saw some jhb guy down for work get poisoned, the ambulance came to pick him up from his hotel. next day he crawled into work and i thought he was gonna peg. he was a off-white green colour with pasty skin like an amphibian :D fsck i felt bad for the guy and sent him back to jozi, i doubt he ever chowed seafood again in his life.

one can never really be to carefull, but surely cooking the fish to the correct temperature / proper cleaning ,would negate the risk of getting poisoned..

If her snapper is red, be careful, she might poison your food!

heard of airplanes :p

yeah sadly grunter and shad and stuff we dont see this side

very good fish

I doubt cpt imports any fish from the east coast or elsewhere, the rest of the country seems to get fish from all around though.
