Reddit to launch cryptocurrency

Reddit Inc., the often controversial website and discussion platform that is a favorite of many cryptocurrency enthusiasts, is launching its own digital token. [Bloomberg]

This is the one application for cryptocurrency that I think might actually work. No longer necessary to debate with yourself if you're going to spend real money to buy virtual silver and gold tokens.

They failed the previous 5 times...

Steemit tried too.

Tapatalk tried, then tapatalk decided to go with KIN and then the SEC stepped in and now tapatalk is on the verge of closing down.

The difference was that Tapatalk didn't have a platform with an already integrated reward system that drives much of the behavior on the platform. Reddit has gold and karma which are pretty much meaningless other than that people pretend they have meaning and engage more with the platform to earn those things. A huge chunk of reddit is reposts of other content to earn those rewards.

And I don't know what happens when those rewards become a bit more real in the form of a digital currency; what kind of behavior that will drive and how the ecosystem of reddit will change for the better or worse but, reddit seem well positioned to integrate something like this.
