Redhat/Fedora drops Mono

mono has been an issue for sometime. in my more vigorous years, i always used to manually remove mono. then from about F8 i stopped.

OK, not completely and only from their Fedora 12 Live media (onwards). Mono apps will still be available in the repos.

I think it is a good move, many others will probably not agree.

Nothing changes.

Previously -> No space for mono on live CD, so tomboy was out.
Now -> Still no space, but a tomboy replacement (gnote) written in C++ available, so that will be added by default.

All it means is that Live CDs will now have a tomboy equivalent program, which they didn't have previously.

You do realise that Tomboy comes with a big part of the Mono framework? Almost everything that Gnote needs is already there... Space and resource-wise, it makes a big difference.

Michael de Haan works for Red Hat. He's not a Mono fan and explains why in this blog entry.

Notice that Miguel de Icaza, the Mono man himself, finds an inaccuracy about support and tries to invalidate everything else that was said.
