About a month ago I noticed that my note 3 which is almost a year old had a swollen battery. I bought it from HiFi Corp online so I took it in to the nearest store two weeks ago. Called them today and was told that they'd received a quotation from their supplier to have the battery replaced as the battery is not covered by the warranty. So, do I suck it up and pay the R600 or do I have any other recourse?

R600 is probably not bad, if it is an official Xiaomi battery. For a knock-off/no-name battery, it's a bit steep.
But like WaxLyrical said, you can save the R600 towards the next phone. Cheap, cheap if you are comfortable buy from over seas.

Correct - resolution is 720 as opposed to 1080.
Mi branded batteries can ordered from AliExpress for like a R100. R150 with shipping and it takes 5min to change.

Good margins on replacing non removable batteries.
Sigh re-read that he already asked MIA, but unfortunately R600 might work out okay. As you have to open the stupid thing as well and waiting for battery from China might take forever.
