I am fed up with my old-fashioned wooden ktichen cabinets. However, my budget is almost zero. I see the trend is to paint the cabinets. In my experience, a sanded and painted cabinet, looks like a sanded and painted cabinet. What kind of paint should I use to get a smooth finish that doesn't look like a DIY paint job. Any tips on technique? I see lots of tutorials on the web, but mostly from US or UK, who seem to have vastly superior products available.
Also, I see they redo their existing counters with a sort of concrete screed http://www.ardexfeatherfinish.com/. Of course, we can't get it here. Is there a similar product available in SA?

Trick is to spray paint and not brush ;)

Check the Home Improvements thread - lots of helpful guys monitoring it to give good advice...

Any tips on spray paint brands? The cheap stuff is rubbish and the American Heritage stuff costs a fortune.
