reduce avi size

Hi,

As the thread title says I need to reduce the size of an AVI. What is the best way to do that? Is there a programme that I can download to do this? Do I need to convert it to another format? If so, which format?

Basically what you need to do is change the compression to something like DivX / xVid

Just the other night, I had to convert an AVI which was about 550mb into 400mb. AutoGK did it with no problems at all and the quality was the same.

er.... I spoke too soon. It appears that the recipient cant play divx files (and is not savvy enough to download the codecs). Any suggestions?
